Comparison In Authentic Friendship

I guest posted on The Tiny Twig‘s blog (aimed at helping young women “adult” with more passion and less fuss) a few months ago about how Comparison Suffocates Authentic Friendship. Here is a recap:

When comparison gets in the way of authentic friendship:

It feels hard to celebrate our friends’ successes. Comparison invites destructive thoughts like, It’s not fair. She is so lucky. Why can’t things come easy for me, like they do for her? She doesn’t understand.

It’s easy to feel threatened by our friends’ other relationships. We feel left out, and social media only exacerbates this issue.

It’s tempting to compete with our friends. Comparing leads to competing, and that’s not authentic friendship.
